The society has had a good start to the New Year and our numbers continue to increase, with new people visiting us most weeks. Our current membership stands at around 50, the highest for a number of years, we must be getting something right!

Members of our club are also making their presence known on the circuit with three having had images accepted by the YPU in the 2011 Exhibition (Andy Kent, Willem Van Herp and Phil Holmes). More recently both Andy and Willem made an excellent show by having Images accepted by the Wath Salon for the 2011 exhibition. Willem had two images selected and Andy three, two of which were "Commended".

As always we have a full diary of events this year (see programme) providing something of interest for everyone. We have several guest speakers booked and a number of practical sessions. As usual we will be holding competitions that are judged by external judges and will be having our regular and very popular portrait evening where members have the opportunity to use studio lighting.

Talking about our "Programme", I would like to thank Martin Litchfield CPAGB for his talk (16th Jan.), "Photography, My Passion" which proved to be very entertaining and he showed a wide range of images covering over 30 yrs. Although he has "converted" to digital he still carries his film camera and produces images on slides and having seen his series of stunning pictures I can understand why! No doubt Andy will be booking him again in the future!

Our "Portrait" competition evening on the 6th February proved to be an excellent evening. The judged, Gerry Padgett LRPS, DPAGB, APAGB had a very difficult job to rank the images entered, because the overall standard was very high. Gerry was very thorough in his comments giving all those present plenty of hints and tips for our future work. I would like to thank Gerry on behalf of our membership for his friendly and proffessional approach in his critique. Click to view a copy of the results.

Coming Events

Visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park - Bretton - Several of our members are orginising a visit to the park on Sunday 12th February for a practical photo session all are welcome. Meeting time - 11 a.m. in the visitors car park. Please contact Amy for more details.

Monday 13th Feb - Lecture - 'Realm of the Dragon' (China) - David Burgess MA(Photo) ARPS - Come along and support the club for what promises to be an interesting an enlightening evening.
